I just spotted this purple (from the factory) BMW E30 Touring (wagon) for sale, close to me. I’m not interested myself, I have owned a few, but maybe someone else here is? Could probably be in the US or Canada for about €6-7 k. edit : I checked it out in person. Pictures!

I have done it before...

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Downside is that it’s a 316i. But that’s just an engine swap away from greatness, right? It passed the strict German TÜV inspection in August 2018 and seems rust free on the pictures. Would have to check it out in person to be sure.

Base version with a power sunroof, sport seats and the nice stock alloys. 188k km, so 117k miles. One point of attention: first registration Ja nuary 1994, so it’ll only be 25 years old 3 months from now.

Edit : I paid a visit to the BMW after work and I was positively surprised. It has a few rough edges, but it’s as rust free as a cheap E30 can be. As in, not 100% rust free but nothing of concern at all. Driver’s seat has some damage on the bolsters only, so that can easily be remedied with generic cloth. Engine started right up and idled calmly immediately. When cold. looked good too. I made a video of the engine running. Paint has some rougher spots, but from the perspective of a cheapish 25 yo car it’s fine. I was positively surprised!

It was entirely boxed in though, so I had no chance to drive it. I had not told the seller I’d come.

Engine sounds more clattery in the video than I experienced it in real life. This is 10-20 seconds after an ice cold start.

I wish. Probably putting my coupe up for sale soon though...need to start saving for a house instead of buying old bmws.

( Too bad its outside my budget of $2500, which I know is really low for anything decent)

Man that looks amazingly clean! At the prices E30s are going for here in the US (and the mileage!) that’s a screaming bargain for a much more unique version of the car. The 316i is something you can live with while it lasts, and just slowly build up inventory for a swap over time.

Source – just sold my 300k mile E30 325i for $6500.

They’re going up in price here too, rapidly. I’m in the Heimat of BMW: Munich. Especially the 325i. Despite being a 316i it’s quite cheap, so I thought I’d post it here. I haven’t seen it in person yet, except seeing a it for a fraction of a second when I commuted past it . Which is why I looked it up.

Oh no....

I’ve really been missing the Touring recently, and I have the garage space to do a swap now...

This one has a 98 hp M40 engine :) Manual though, unlike the previous one . This o ne is one of the last ones, first registered 01-1994.

But I think I’ll check it out soon, just because. It’s for sale at a professional cheap car peddler and it’s literally on my commute. I spotted it on my way to work yesterday.

This is near- perfect for me. I’d be very interested in it, can afford it, and would really value your help at the European end of things. I’m not averse to flying over myself if necessary, but it’s an awfully long way from the west coast of the U.S.! Mind emailing me at rpm dot handshake at gmail to discuss further?

I’ve been wanting to get one and swap an N54 into it. I really need to buy a house so I can have a project car.

A 316i would be the perfect candidate for an engine swap...

You gotta start eyeing up E36 tourings. Maybe they’ll go up though once they can be imported.

Now that would be a hoot! Engine probably weighs as much as an engine-less E30. Could probably twist the chassis from all the torque

They were introduced late 1994 or so, right ? They’re still as economically worthless as other E36s.

I met a guy the other day who daily drives an LS3 swapped e30 sedan. I completed it not know what was under the hood, then I mentioned how good the stance looked. It was on newer 16” wheels with nice meaty tires and lowered but only an inch or two. So I said t looked really aggressive and subtle, and asked how he got 5 lug wheels on it.

Then he says “yeah it has a full e36 M3 suspension and a Corvette LS3.” And I began to drool even more.

Yeah; I think that’s about right in terms of timing. Just one year away at this point. I think they’re kind of a clean design though.

Find a wrecked S2000 & swap in the drive train from the Honda.

Are you still interested? I checked it out in person, and it seems to be in a very good condition for the price. See the information/pictures I added above.

On e thing to keep in mind: first registration is January 1994, so we’d have to wait with shipping until January.

I should probably be able to get it to that Emden port (now 600 miles away) for €5k all in.
